Review your options, choose who to cover, and enroll through Dayforce.

You will have 30 days from your hire date to make your benefit elections in Dayforce.

If you do not elect benefits as a new hire, you won’t have an opportunity to make changes unless you experience a qualified life event, such as a birth, adoption, marriage, or divorce.

Important: If you experience a qualified life event and want to make changes to your benefits as a result, you must do so within 30 days of the event.

Cost for coverage

The amount you pay for coverage depends on which plan you choose and who you cover.

Eligibility

Employees

Eligibility for Desjardins Insurance depends on what type of employee you are and how many hours you work.

  • Employees must be residents in Canada. An employee who does not reside in Canada must receive prior written approval for benefit eligibility.
  • If an employee terminates employment and is re-hired by Caleres with six months immediately following the termination of coverage, they will be eligible for the reinstatement of insurance on the date they resume employment provided application for reinstatement is made with 31 days of eligibility.

001 Store employees

Store Employees employed by Caleres on a permanent, full-time basis and who work a minimum of 26 hours per week become eligible for benefits on the first day of the month coincident with or next following the date the employee has completed 90 days of continuous service.

004 Management – Retail Field (non-Perth employees)

Management Employees in the Retail Field employed by Caleres on a permanent, full-time basis and who work a minimum of 26 hours per week become eligible for benefits on the first day of the month coincident with or next following the date the employee has completed 90 days of continuous service.

006 Management – Perth employees

Management Employees at Perth employed by Caleres on a permanent, full-time basis and who work a minimum of 26 hours per week become eligible for benefits on the first day of the month coincident with or next following the date the employee has completed 90 days of continuous service.

007 Clerical (non-Unionized) – Perth employees

Clerical (non-Unionized) Employees at Perth employed by Caleres and who Work a minimum of 21 hours per week become eligible for benefits on the first day of the month coincident with or next following the date the employee has completed 90 days of continuous service.

009 Clerk employees – Perth Union

Clerk (Unionized) Employees at Perth employed by Caleres and who Work a minimum of 21 hours per week become eligible for benefits the date the employee has completed 12 months of continuous service for dental care benefits and the date the employee has completed three months of continuous service for the other benefits.

Dependents

You can choose to cover your spouse/domestic partner, your children, and your spouse/domestic partner’s children as defined below.

It is understood that a functional impairment will be defined as stipulated under the regulations of any provincial legislation, when covered under such regulations.

An eligible person who is domiciled in Canada and who at the time of the event giving rise to a claim:

  • Is legally married to or living in a civil union with the Participant; or
  • Has been living with the Participant in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 months and has not been separated from the Participant for 90 days or more as a result of a breakdown in the relationship; or
  • Is living in a conjugal relationship with the Participant who is the natural parent of the Spouse’s child and has not been separated from the Participant for 90 days or more as a result of a breakdown in the relationship

Under 21 years of age, and over whom the Participant or the spouse of the Participant exercises parental authority or exercised parental authority until the age of majority; or

Has no spouse, is 25 years old or under and is, or is deemed to be, a full-time student at an accredited educational institution, and over whom the Participant or the spouse of the Participant would exercise parental authority if he were a minor; or

Has reached the age of majority, has no spouse, and is suffering from a “functional impairment” that must have existed when the status of the person fit the definition of either 1. or 2. Above. In addition, in order to be considered a “person suffering from a functional impairment,” this person must be living with the Participant or the spouse of the Participant who would exercise parental authority over him as if he were a minor.

Making changes

Outside of the new hire enrollment period, you can only make changes to your benefits if you experience a qualified life event, like getting married or welcoming a new child.
